Compared to natural waters, the number of germs in the aquarium is relatively high due to the smaller amount of water. This must be reduced and brought to a natural level. However, aquarium water cannot and should not be completely sterile.

Only germs that are floating freely in the water are captured by the UV filter. The bound cleansing bacteria in the biological filter, bacteria in the substrate etc. are spared. Cloudiness of the water caused by bacteria or floating algae can be removed very well by UV filtration. In principle, algae growth is also reduced since the spores are killed.

UV filters usually ensure healthier fish, as the risk of infection is reduced. A UV filter is particularly recommended for breeding tanks, because often dangerous pathogens settle on eggs or infect young fish that do not yet have enough disease resistance.

UV filtration does not generally cause any change in the water values.
